Salem, NH — James Michael Bridges, 56, died on Friday, August 23, 2013, at his home with his family by his side, after a heroic 16-year battle with emphysema.
He was born in Liberty, N.Y., on March 16, 1957, and was the son of James W. Bridges and Anne Farrell. He was raised and educated in Salem, where he attended Salem High School prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1977.
Known as “Mike,” he served in the Marine Corps as an aircraft technician for seven years. He spent the majority of his duties in Okinawa, Japan, where he met his wife.
For over 10 years, he was employed by BJ's Wholesale Club. Prior to BJ's, Mike was a technician at Raytheon.
He resided and raised his family in Salem, N.H. In addition to traveling back to Okinawa, he enjoyed taking his family to Canobie Lake Park, the beach, and Water Country.
Mike was an animal lover, enjoyed music, working on cars, photography, reading, and watching his sons' basketball, soccer and baseball games.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mitsuko Bridges of Salem; sons, Beau Bridges of Tewksbury, Mass., and Nigel Bridges of Salem; a grandson, Kane Bridges; brothers, Larry Bridges, Billy Bridges, Greg Bridges; and a sister, Linda Bridges.
ARRANGEMENTS: A service will be held privately by the family.
