Palm Harbor, FL — Daniel M. Ackroyd, Sr. passed away on July 8, where he resided in Florida after a long struggle with diabetes. Daniel was born on September 8, 1934, to Adele Marsh Ackroyd in Lawrence, Mass. Daniel was a graduate of Lawrence High School. After serving in the army, he graduated from Boston College. He enjoyed a long career at "The Hartford Insurance Company."
Daniel was a member of the Rocky Club in Lawrence where he was a player/manager on their Social League softball team.
In the last years of his life he enjoyed a full life in Palm Harbor with his beloved wife, Irene of 55 years, playing tennis and reading. Those who knew him well witnessed his passion about injustices in the world. Daniel was the proud father of his son, Daniel Jr., an artist, who lives abroad and, his daughter, Diane, a psychiatric nurse practitioner in NYC, in addition to his grandson, Zayd, daughter-in-law, Margherite and dog, Chloe. Daniel was the eldest with 4 brothers, David, predeceased, James from North Andover, Kenneth in Methuen, and Dennis in Maine, and his sisters-in-law, Claudette, Donna and Susan Ackroyd; multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as cousin, Lawrence (Bob) Sova of Maryland. All who knew him enjoyed his charismatic personality and sense of humor. In Daniel's early years he knew hunger and poverty and was grateful to create a successful life that he fully embraced with his family.
We will all miss you Danny Boy.
