Groveland — Marie A. (Cuocolo) Hurd, 64, of Groveland, died on Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Josephine (Palermo) and the late Angelo R. Cuocolo. Raised in Revere, she was a graduate of Revere High School, and received her bachelor's degree from Southern New Hampshire University.
In 1969, upon her marriage to her late husband, Lendell A. “Butch” Hurd, they started their life together and raised their family in Groveland. Marie was very active in her community as she raised her family. A selfless woman and loving wife and mother, she dedicated her life to her family while juggling a career. Her late husband was a self-employed mechanic and his hobby was racing cars, so Marie was drafted as a member of his pit crew and biggest fan. As her boys grew, she became involved in the Boy Scouts Troop 87 in Groveland. She was so proud of the fact that all three of her boys were Eagle Scouts, and she eventually was named chairwoman for the Boy Scouts of America, serving the organization for over 10 years.
Marie was employed by the D.J. Casey Paper Co. in Haverhill for over 15 years. She then became business office manager for the City of Methuen Public Schools, and for the last three years, she was employed at Pentucket Regional High School as business office administrator.
She leaves her three sons, Craig D. Hurd and his wife, Melissa (Ariel) of Haverhill, Colby A. Hurd and Dallis Hurd, both of Groveland; two cherished grandchildren, Sophia J. and Vincent A. Hurd; her mother, Josephine Cuocolo, of Newburyport; two sisters, Kathleen C. Cuocolo and her partner, Gary L. Smith and her son, Sean P. Butze of Concord, and Angela C. Miele and her husband, Joseph, of Londonderry, N.H., and their daughters, Alysia and Julia Dushane.
