Raymond, NH — John E. Murphy, 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Raymond, on September 25, 2013. He was born in Lawrence, Mass., on April 9, 1948, son of James Murphy and Rolande (Desrosiers) LaValley.
He grew up in South Lawrence in the Tower Hill neighborhood where he attended the local schools. At the age of 17 he entered the U.S. Army under the First Infantry Division, volunteered for Army Special Forces, served with the 6th Group and completed two tours of combat in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. For being wounded in combat he was awarded two Purple Hearts.
John lived for the last 24 years in Raymond and worked for himself as a painting and fine carpentry contractor. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time hunting and fishing, just being out in nature. John was an animal lover and had several dogs over the years whom he loved spending time with. He was also a New England sports fan and enjoyed solving 1000 piece puzzles in his spare time.
John is survived by his loving wife, Debra Murphy of Raymond; three sons, Jonathan Murphy of Raymond, Jason Murphy and his wife, DeAnna, of Plymouth, Mass., Brian Murphy and his wife, Stephanie, of Plymouth, Mass.; one daughter, Lisa Murphy of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; two sisters, Sharon Madensky of Lawrence, Mass., Kathy McLaughlin of Methuen, Mass.; two brothers, Shawn Murphy of Lawrence, Mass., and Steven Murphy also of Lawrence, Mass. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A calling hour will be on Saturday, September 28, 2013, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 2 Epping St., in Raymond. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
