Thomas K. Flaherty, 59

Woburn, MA — Tom Flaherty, of Woburn, passed away suddenly after a brief illness in Burlington, Mass., on September 27, 2013.

Born in Woburn on February 5, 1954, Tom was the son of the late William Joseph Flaherty and Margaret (Mulkerrin) Flaherty

Tom was a lifelong resident of Woburn, and was proud of his community ties and traditions. He was a welcome sight at Woburn's annual Halloween parade and Woburn High Thanksgiving Day football game. Tom worked as a laborer for many local area construction companies.

Tom was a true treasure to know. An avid reader of all sources from the Woburn Times, to bestselling autobiographies, he was a wealth of information. He was often the source of phone call when friends were arguing over trivia or facts. "Let's call Tom, he will know the answer," was often spoken amongst friends.

Tom was a true outdoorsman and nature enthusiast. He could identify butterflies, trees and knew every monthly full moon name. He had a great admiration for all animals, especially the groundhog. Groundhog Day was his favorite holiday. But the most important trait of our friend was his love and respect for his friends and "family" by friendship. Any friend in need could look to him for a helping hand, an extra shovel, or rake, and he would welcome the task.

Your journey was too short, but so meaningful. We will miss the smile on your face, the twinkle in your blue Irish eyes and your infectious sense of humor. We have lost a treasure. Rest in peace, my friend.

Tom is survived by his many friends, especially Jim and Vicky Farrell of Groveland, Susan Maynard and Ricky Miele of Woburn, Dan Hayden and family of Woburn, and Ted Martel of Woburn; and many adopted nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters. Tom is survived by a brother, William Flaherty, of unknown parts.
