Edward 'Scotty' Morrow

Bradford — Edward “Scotty” Morrow, 92, of Bradford, passed away on Thursday, October 3, at Lawrence General Hospital. Born in Haverhill, he was the youngest of 11 children to the late Robert and Maria (Edwards) Morrow.

Scotty was educated in the Haverhill Public Schools, graduating from Haverhill High School in 1939. He was a WWII Air Force veteran. A graduate of Green Mountain College and the University of New Hampshire, he received his master’s degree in education from Northeastern University in 1957. Scotty had an extensive public service career that included 12 years as a teacher, coach and principal at Merrimac High School, eight years on the Haverhill School Committee, six years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and eight years as the legislative secretary to Governors Volpe and Sargent. Prior to his retirement, he worked for 15 years as the management bureau director for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Two personal accomplishments for Scotty were his playing baseball at the college, and semi-professional level, including a tryout with the Philadelphia Athletics, and receiving the Golden Gavel Award for the year 1976 from the Massachusetts Legislator Association for his exemplary service as a legislator.

Scotty was both a member of the Saggahew Lodge A.F & A.M and the First Presbyterian Church of Haverhill, where he served as an Elder and a key member of the building committee, and was instrumental in the construction of the new church building in 1986.

His greatest accomplishment in life was being a loving husband, father and grandfather. His smile, wit and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean S. Morrow; his children, Scott E. and his wife, Debra Morrow of West Newbury, Mass., Dale J. Morrow and his partner, Michael Silvia of Medford, Mass., Cheryl J. and her husband, Thomas Morin of Manchester, N.H., and Edward R. and his wife, Elizabeth Morrow of Bradford, Mass.; five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jeffrey, Samantha, Josiah, and Eamon Morrow; as well as several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family may call at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main Street, Bradford, on Monday, October 7, from 4 to 7pm. Officers and members of Saggahew Lodge A.F.&A.M. will conduct a Masonic Service at 6:45p.m. A Family Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 8.
