Rafael DePeña


LAWRENCE, MA — Rafael DePeña, 70, a longtime resident of this city, passed away on October 8, 2013, at Lawrence General Hospital, after a brief illness.

He was a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, where he was raised and educated. He was born on November 25, 1942, and was the son of the late Rafael DePeña and Mercedes Rodriguez.

In the late 1970s, he came to America with great hopes and aspirations for his children, and to make a better life for himself.

Mr. DePeña was a machine operator for nearly three decades at the former Malden Mills Industries.

His ultimate legacy will be his dedication to his children, as he was an excellent father and grandfather.

Family members include three daughters, Juana Deschamps, Mercedes DePeña, Joanna DePeña; three sons, Rafael DePeña Jr., Raphael DePeña, Luis DePeña; 10 grandchildren; brothers and sisters; extended relatives; and friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 10, from 4 to 8 p.m.

His funeral will be from The Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence, on Friday, October 11, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m., in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.
