Racine, WI — Michael W. Byra, 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home, Union Grove, Wis. Michael was born in Lawrence, Mass., on February 27, 1932, and was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Wawszkiewicz) Byra.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. On May 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marjorie J. Blaser. He was employed by Western Publishing for 42 years, retiring in 1991. Michael was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 310.
Survivors include his children, Daniel (Susan) Byra, Mark (Paula) Byra, Mary Byra; four grandchildren, Hollie (James) DeFranco, Nikolaas Byra, Meaghan Fors, Betsy Byra; sister, Leslie (Richard) Salach; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many dear friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, at 6 p.m., at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, Racine, with Rev. Warren Williams officiating. Private entombment with Full Military Honors will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Thursday at the church from 4 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, it has beend suggested that memorials be sent to Atonement Lutheran Church, or the Diabetes Association.
