Methuen, MA — Maria E. Amaral, 80, passed away at Lawrence General Hospital. Maria was born in Pico, Azores, Portugal, and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Luisa (Dutra) Neves. Maria and her late husband, Antonio, and their children moved to Lawrence, Mass., in 1959. Here, the family became active parishioners of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and the Holy Ghost Society. Maria was also an Auxiliary member of the Portuguese-American Club in Lawrence. She worked as a seamstress at Mutual Manufacturing in Lawrence, and retired from Lucent Technologies. The love and joy of her life were her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.
The widow of Antonio Amaral, Maria is survived by her children, Roger Amaral of Salem, N.H.; Maria, wife of Manuel Peixoto of Hampstead; Jean Giguere and her husband, Daniel Cook of Windham; Edwardina, wife of Vasco Lima of Methuen, and, Diane, wife of Gary Manley of Methuen; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson, Owen; one brother, Jose Neves and his wife, Odilia, of Faial, Azores, Portugal; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Roger A. Amaral.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, October 16, at 10 a.m., at Holy Rosary Church at Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence. Burial will be in St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Friends may call on Tuesday, October 15, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Farrah Funeral Home, 133 Lawrence St., Lawrence.
