Lawrence — John Higginbottom, 64, of Lawrence, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013, peacefully at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
John was born in Lawrence on November 28, 1948, to Joseph and Irene (Stone) Higginbottom. John married the love of his life, Eileen, in 1967 and they celebrated 46 happy years by eachother's side.
John is a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served active duty in The Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. He is a graduate of Lawrence High School and worked as an auto mechanic for many years until he retired from Ken's Auto in 2009.
John loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved attending the Annual "Memorial Day Fishing Trip" with friends and family. He also shared a passion for playing cards and horse racing. He took trips to Las Vegas with his close friends and trips to Saratoga and the Belmont Stakes with his daughter, Carrie.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Faucher); his daughter, Carrie and her husband, Ronald T Lavallee, Jr. of Methuen; his brother, Joseph and wife, Deborah of Windham, N.H.; brothers-in-law, William Faucher and wife, Eleanor of Whitman, Mass., Albert Faucher and wife, Kathleen of Salem, N.H., John Faucher and his late wife, Anita of Methuen, and James Faucher of Raymond, N.H.; a sister-in-law, the late Elizabeth Maille, and her husband, Dewey of Bradford, Mass. He leaves one aunt, several cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends. He also leaves behind his faithful dog and friend, Maggie, and his other canine pal, Ted. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter of Lawrence and his sister, Joan Bernard of Bradford, as well as both his parents and his beloved dog, Patches.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church, 118 South Broadway, Lawrence, MA 01843. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, North Andover, MA.
