Methuen — James J. Donahue, 86, of Methuen, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the Lowell General Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born April 7, 1927, in Haverhill, MA, the son of the late Henry and Almina (Dwyer) Donahue.
Mr. Donahue was raised and educated in Haverhill, MA and for the past 36 years resided in Methuen, MA. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served during WWII. He worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy for over 34 years specializing in Logistics Management and Provisioning Supply Support. He relocated as his career progressed from Boston and Quincy Navy Yards to Norfolk and Crystal City, VA before returning to Charlestown Navy Yard until he retired in 1984.
After his retirement he volunteered his time at Good Samaritans and Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley in Lawrence, MA answering the hotline and taking the elderly to various appointments. He also worked for several years for Elder Services as a case manager. He loved to golf with his friends and was a member of the Pine Valley Country Club in Pelham, NH. He also enjoyed playing 45s at the Bavarian Club in Lawrence and was an avid longtime runner participating in many local 5 and 10k road races in the Merrimack Valley area.
Mr. Donahue is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary (Saba) Donahue of Methuen, MA; his son, James L. Donahue and his wife, Jodi, of Fremont, NH; his daughter, Marisa A. Donahue of Portsmouth, NH and his granddaughter, Janie Marisha Donahue of Fremont, NH. He is also survived by his cousins, Lawrence Cunningham, Gerard Cunningham, Albert Morin, Raymond Dwyer, Patricia Woodbury; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Leonard Ramey, Shirley and Manny Moscuzza, Joe Shaheen, and Dorothy Saba and his many loving nieces, and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
