E. Dorothy Jeanes, 90

Reading — E. Dorothy Jeanes, 90, of Reading and formerly of North Reading, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Lahey Hospital Medical Center in Burlington, after a brief illness.

Born in Winchester, MA on November 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Lulu (Reid) Jeanes.

Dorothy was raised and attended Public School in North Reading. She was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1941, a graduate of Providence Bible Institute in 1945, with a Teacher’s Certificate and also received a BA degree from Barrington College in 1965.

Dorothy was a dedicated missionary to Japan for 35 years with SEND International. She had a great love for the Japanese people and her life of Christian service was an inspiration to many. After retiring from the mission field, she taught English as a 2nd language at the Park Street Church in Boston. Dorothy was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Church in North Reading and was a member of several Missionary Societies. She also attended Park Street Church in Boston, who supported her work in the mission field for many years.

Dorothy loved painting landscapes of Japanese and American scenes. She also loved to write and she wrote and published her biography at the age of 82.

Family members include her many loving nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Lawson, Charles “Hubie,” Arthur and Raymond Jeanes and Elizabeth “Betty” MacRae.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity Evangelical Church, 105 Haverhill St., North Reading on Wednesday, November 13 at 11 AM. Interment will be held prior to the Memorial Service at 10 AM in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. There will be no calling hours.
