W. Dennis, MA — 10/27/12 Andrew J. Tuney, Jr. age 89 in W. Dennis and formerly of Georgetown and Beverly, son of the late Andrew and Helen Tuney. After Graduating from Stoneham High he joined the Marine Corps in September 1941. He proudly served with the 4th Marine Division in the South Pacific fighting battles at Roi-Nmur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation with Star among other medals. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Stoneham American Legion. In 1947 he followed in his father's footsteps as a Stoneham policeman and in 1956 was appointed Lt. Detective with the MA State Police for Essex County- always with his coronet in the back of the cruiser in case he stopped at Lennie's on the Turnpike coming home. He headed the task force created by Atty. General Edward Brooke to investigate the Boston Strangler case. As owner of Investigative Associates he worked on many cases throughout the country for Atty. F. Lee Bailey and other lawyers. He leaves sister Jeanette Lowthers of Plymouth and the late Barbara Roberts, daughters Andrea M. Holbrook and James of No. Andover, Jeanne V. Elliott of Atkinson, NH, and Barbara G. Viera and James of Georgetown, sons Andrew Tuney III (Jack) and Anita of Bluffton, SC, and Arthur R. (Russ) Tuney and Randa of Wilmington,NC., 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He also leaves former wife Joan Tuney of Plaistow, NH, friend and fellow WWII Marine, Donald Michaud, Salem, and his devoted caretaker and friend, Sandra Finstein of W. Dennis. We wish to thank Dr. Lee and the staff at the Veterans Hospital and Hospice of Cape Cod for their care. Atkinson, NH — Charliene P. Moore died May 16, 2013, in Pleasant Valley, N.H., after a long illness from cancer. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Aug. 16, 1945, daughter of the late Pearl and Charles Moore. She grew up in Everett, Mass., and graduated from Malden High. Charliene worked at the IRS for 20 years and for Securitas Services where her security assignments included stints at Sweetheart Plastics, Hewlitt Packard and Global Insights. She fought a long, hard battle with cancer and through it all loved her co-workers and friends. Charliene is survived by her longtime companion, Linda McAdams of Atkinson, N.H., and “Mac,” her furry little friend.
