Denver, Pa — Mr. John Signorelli, 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.
Mr. John Signorelli started his career in 1940 with Show Orchestras in the Massachusetts area.
In 1943 he enlisted in the Marines. After boot camp, he was assigned to Bob Crosby's Orchestra to play at Marine camps over seas in the Pacific area. Then in November of 1944, his Division was ordered to invade Iwo Jima. Music duty stopped, and the invasion started on February 19th 1945. Survivor of the battle, he was then assigned for occupation duty in Nagasaki Japan when the war was over.
Discharged March of 1946, he settled in the Brooklyn, NY area and started a career with the orchestra's of Billy Butterfield, Gene Krupa, Harry James, Les Elgart, Sammy Kaye, Prez Prado; Roseland and Arcadia Ballrooms.
Played in seven Broadway shows: Golden Boy, Gypsy, Hello Dolly, Sound of Music, Woman of the Year, Me and My Gal, Bye-Bye Birdie. Toured with Englebert Humperdinck, Anna Maria Albergetti, Vic Damone, Rosemary Clooney, Cab Calloway, Hal Linden, Pearl Bailey, Donnie & Marie Osmond, Joel Grey, Roger Williams and many others.
In between, he played on World Cruise ships for seven around-the-world trips. He also toured with the after death bands of Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey & Glenn Miller.
He appeared in two movies, The Wrong Man with Henry Fonda, and Zelig with Woody Allen.
