Haverhill — Ralph Dennis Smith, age 69, of Haverhill, died peacefully, Sunday morning, December 9, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Nashua, N.H.
He was born in Haverhill, April 22, 1943, son of the late Harold J. and Helen M. (Wilson) Smith and attended Haverhill Schools.
A veteran serving with the U.S. Navy from April, 1960 until his honorable discharge in April, 1964, he was stationed aboard one of the ships that was dispatched during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was also an active member of the Amvets Post 147 of Haverhill.
For many years, Ralph worked as a car salesman, a job he truly enjoyed and a career that brought him the dearest of lifelong friends.
A man with a great heart and witty sense of humor, he treasured time spent with family, friends and his adored cat, Rocky.
His loving family includes two daughters, Robyn Smith and husband. Paul and their son, Paul all of Nashua, who were his dedicated caretakers during his illness; and Laurie Callaghan of Beverly; three sons, Dennis Smith of Newburyport, Scott Smith and Keith Smith both of Raymond, N.H.; a brother, Harold “Bud” Smith and wife, Verna of Newburyport; along with several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many dear friends, all of whom are deeply saddened by his passing. He was predeceased by his brother, James A. Smith.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, will be held Friday, December 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. immediately followed by services at noontime, then burial at Locust Grove Cemetery.
