Methuen — Richard J. Belair, 61, a lifelong resident of Methuen, died peacefully at home Tuesday, January 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Richard, son of the late, Felix J. and Marion (Metcalf) Belair, was born in Methuen on September 15, 1951. He attended St. Mary’s School in Methuen and graduated from Tenney High School in Methuen, class of 1970. Richard was a bus driver for many years working for both Laidlaw Bus Co. and McKinney Bus Co. He was an enthusiastic baseball fan and in his younger days, was a well known pitcher here in Methuen. He was a gentle, caring man who took great joy in helping others and giving to charities and organizations.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife, Joanne Merchant; one daughter, Karen Belair of Salem, N.H.; three step-children, June DeMarco and Daniel Mercant, both of Plaistow, N.H. and Nathan Merchant of Methuen; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two aunts and several cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held Tuesday, January 22, at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary - Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Friends will be warmly received in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, on Monday, January 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
