Ronald F. Ford, 75


Methuen — Ronald Francis Ford, 75, died at his home Wednesday, January 16, 2013 surrounded by his family.

Ronnie was born in Lawrence on March 28, 1937 to John J. and Anna (Boguski) Ford of Lawrence. While attending Central Catholic High School he chose to enlist in the U.S. Army and became an Army Airborne Ranger. After being honorably discharged, he completed high school at Newman Prep in Newton. He then attended Merrimack College before transferring to Boston College.

In the private industry, Ron was the owner of Northern Industries and Northern Process Servers. He also served the public as a Methuen police officer, Essex County deputy sheriff and Methuen Town Counselor where he retired after 20 years on the council. Ronnie also served on the Essex County advisory board, the Methuen School Committee and the Greater Lawrence Technical School Committee.

In early 2001, he revived the popular Hotline radio show on WCCM, tackling political and social issues within our community. Most recently, he was a columnist for the Valley Patriot.

Throughout Ronnie’s life, he was involved in many community associations. He was a CYO basketball coach and one of the founders of Methuen Pop Warner football which is still thriving today. Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4027, American Legion, Hibernians, VFW and Army Ranger Association.

Ronnie was known to be a great storyteller with an infectious personality and a big heart. He found happiness and joy through helping others. His greatest love was watching his children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities.

He is survived by his wife, Anne (Rand) Ford of Methuen; sons, Mike and his wife, Anne Marie of Haverhill, Tim and his wife, Kim of Methuen; daughters, Kathleen Gagne of Winchendon and her fiancé, Darryl Smart of Monson, Patti and her wife, Jaime Prohaska of Haverhill, and Beth Ford-DelRosso and her fiancé, Michael Owens of Haverhill; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ronnie was predeceased by his son, Daniel William Ford; brother, John J. Ford Jr. and sisters, Gloria Carroll and Eleanor White.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to call on Monday, January 21, from 3-8 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be held the following day at 10 a.m. at St. Monica's Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
