LAWRENCE — Ernest C. Cote, 79, passed away Friday at Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a period of declining health.
A native of Sherbrooke, Canada, together with his family he settled in the area at the age of 12.
His pride in the U.S.A. prompted his enlistment in the US Army during the Korean War era where he served honorably.
As a young man he was an amateur boxer and participated in the annual youth competition of the Silver Mittens in Lowell.
He possessed a great sense of humor and level of wisdom imparted by his life’s experiences. If he was driving up the coast or finding a new diner to try, he was continually interested in learning new things and traveling.
His family members include, two daughters, Joanne Cote, Doris Silva; one son, John Cote and his wife Krista; grandchildren, Paul Silva and his wife Michelle, Jason Cote, Maryann Muñoz and her husband Juan, John Cote Jr., Samantha Cote, Katreana Silva; three great grandsons; Three brothers, Paul, George and Roger Cote; and his loyal companion Shirley LaFave.
