Dorothy (Elliot) Lewis, 95

North Andover — Dorothy (Elliot) Lewis, a resident of North Andover, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 13, 2012. She lived all her life in the town where she was born.

During her years at Johnston High School she met another “townie” named Frank G. Lewis and they were married on May 4, 1940. She was a graduate of Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing.

She started Mrs. Lewis' Nursery School as a favor for a friend at the Old North Andover Center Day Care. She opened up her home for 24 preschoolers in 1947 and her last class was in June of 2002, a total of 55 years.

Dorothy’s school was her life and happiness. A number of times she went to the Elliot Person School at Tufts University to polish up on her teaching talents. She loved people and used to meet every parent, every day. Her daughter, Cheryl Kettinger, joined her as a partner in 1977 and stayed with her to the final class. Her voice could always be heard when she said, “Children are just the most important things in the world, if the world would just wake up and realize it”.

She will be sorely missed by her family and many, many friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: Dorothy’s funeral services and burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St, North Andover.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the North Andover Stevens Memorial Library, Children’s Department 345 Main St. North Andover, MA 01845.
