Chelmsford, MA — Francis G. Cummings, 87, a 50 year resident of Chelmsford died Friday, March 1, 2013, at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Doris Y. (Lacharite) Cummings, to whom he was married for 65 years.
He was born in Lawrence on February 1, 1926, and was a son of the late Gerald and Ida (Brear) Cummings. He received his education in Lawrence schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He was also a graduate of Lowell Technological Institute.
Francis served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 34 years as an industrial engineer by Raytheon Company in Waltham.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary Parish in Chelmsford.
Francis was an avid card player and enjoyed bowling, and playing golf with the Geritol League at the Chelmsford Country Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Christine Wisnes of McMinnville, OR, Susan Cummings of Arnold, MD, and Daniel Cummings and his wife Kimberly of Nashua, NH; six grandchildren, Michael Wisnes, Matthew Zeigenfuse, Emily Zeigenfuse, Nora Zeigenfuse, Patrick Cummings, and Bryan Cummings; two great grandchildren, Aislin and Nathaniel Wisnes; two brothers, Richard Cummings of FL and John Cummings of Methuen; a sister, Elizabeth Cummings of Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Monday from 5 until 8 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment in St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
