Lawrence — Mary (Ambra) Pappalardo, passed away peacefully on Monday March 4, 2013 at the Lawrence General Hospital, after a period of declining health. Mary was born on October 14, 1923, to Pasquale and Eva (Medici) Ambra of Lawrence. She was educated at Holy Rosary Grammar school and Lawrence High school. Mary was married to Gaetano (Tom) Pappalardo in 1945.
As a young woman, Mary worked in the garment industry in Lawrence as a sleeve setter at various clothing manufacturers until the mid – 1960s. She raised her family while working in the family business, Boston Fish Market, with her husband Gaetano and her son Thomas until her retirement in 2008. For 45 years she could be found waiting on customers and taking orders until her health would no longer permit it.
Mary’s first and foremost passion was her love and commitment to family. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. Mary loved to cook, especially on Christmas Eve and Christmas day for the entire extended family and friends. Mary was also a lifelong avid seamstress, taking sewing lessons and making all of her own draperies and many garments for herself and her grandchildren over the years. She was a member of St. Rita’s Sodality.
She is survived by her son, Thomas J. Pappalardo and his wife Marie of Methuen; her daughter, Mary P. Raymond and her husband Anthony of North Andover; her granddaughters, (Her “sweethearts”) Elizabeth Raymond and Margaret Raymond also of North Andover; her sister, Josephine Guselli of Lawrence; her sister-in-law, Rose Ambra also of Lawrence and numerous nieces and nephews around the Merrimack Valley. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 38 years, Gaetano (Tom) in 1982 and her brother, Salvatore Ambra.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Cataudella Funeral Home 126 Pleasant Valley St. Methuen. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St. Lawrence. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
