Manchester, NH — Victoria Joyce Lagault, 67, of Manchester, N.H., formerly of Lawrence, Methuen, Salem, Port Charlotte, Fla., and St. Anicet Quebec, Canada, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Methuen, the daughter of the late Alphonse and Annie (Beaudoin) Dubois.

Edward Brooks Stevens, 91
North Andover, MA. — Stevens, Edward Brooks, aged 91, of North Andover and formerly of Tewksbury and Andover, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Mr. Stevens was born in Lowell in 1922, the eldest son of the late Ames Stevens and the late Phyllis Brooks Stevens. He was educated at the Groton School, Class of 1940, and Harvard University, Class of 1944, and served in the 20th Armored Division of the U.S. Army in the Second World War. Before leaving for France in 1944, he was married to the former Ann C. Johnson of Norwich, Conn. Upon his return to the U.S., the couple settled in Tewksbury and in 1947, Mr. Stevens began working for the family business, Ames Textile Corporation. Over the years, Mr. Stevens worked his way through the business to become its president and chairman of the board, and he and his wife became the parents of four children. After a fire destroyed their home in 1963, the family moved to Andover, where they remained until 1987, when Mr. and Mrs. Stevens settled into a family home in North Andover. During a long and distinguished career in the textile industry, Mr. Stevens developed the business in the U.S. and expanded it to Europe. He made many friends along the way, and wrote a memoir of his career that he called, The Time of My Life. He was also a director of the State Street Bank and a trustee of the Lahey Clinic. Mr. Stevens was a philanthropist and served on many non-profit boards, including the Boys and Girls Club of Lowell, the United Way of the Merrimack Valley, and Ironstone Farm’s Challenge Unlimited program for disabled children and adults. As chairman of the board of the American Textile History Museum, he led a successful campaign to move the museum to a large space in a former mill building in Lowell and to bring it to national prominence. He also volunteered in the Executive Service Corps of New England, helping a wide variety of non-profit agencies raise funds for service programs and working with them to develop their boards and business plans.

Methuen, MA — James Angelone, 85, of Methuen passed away after a battle with cancer and heart disease on Thursday at his home. James was the son of the late Vincenzo and Antonetta (Marinelli) Angelone. He was born in Methuen and was a lifelong resident, educated in the Methuen School System. James was employed at Western Electric for 30 years in a variety of positions, retiring from the position of field layout operator.

Peter V. O'Connell, 54
Methuen, MA — Peter Vincent O'Connell, 54, of New Market and formerly of Methuen, Mass., died Sunday, May 5, 2013. Born March 15, 1959, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Caryl O'Connell of Methuen and the late Vincent O'Connell. He was the husband of Joan Trudel O'Connell, formerly of Boylston, Mass., his wife of 31 years. Mr. O'Connell served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was employed as a health physicist for the U.S. Department of Energy for more than 20 years. He was a very active member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown, where he taught CCD and was active with the youth groups. He volunteered at Frederick homeless shelter and was a regular apheresis volunteer platelet donor at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He enjoyed coaching his daughter's soccer and softball teams; running marathons; and had served as treasurer of his GOHO exercise group. He was a devoted and loving father to his two daughters, Kerry Ellen O'Connell and Dana Joann O'Connell, both of New Market. He is also survived by his siblings, Debbie O'Connell of Methuen, Colleen McGowan and husband, Frank of West Chester, Pa., Paula Giarrusso and husband, Michael of Methuen, and Stephen O'Connell and wife, Gina of Glastonbury, Conn. He was loved by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ellen Morisseau. He will be missed by all.

Helen Leah (Cargill) Twigg, 89
Andover, MA — Helen passed away peacefully on May 5, 2013. She was the last of the remaining living children of Robert Webster Cargill and Jane Spink (Beattie). She was predeceased by Robert, Margaret, George, Elizabeth, and Richard Cargill. The Cargill family immigrated to Andover from Abroath, Scotland. Helen outlived her husband Jack, who was blessed to have her and who she cared for faithfully through many years. Though she bore no children of her own, she was a loving Mum to many of us. She was an avid lifelong reader, lover of dogs, especially Dachshunds, and thoroughly enjoyed walking all over town. She had a best friend, Irene, who she treasured since childhood. She was a wonderful cook with shortbread, lemon meringue pie, and the best whipped potatoes among her specialties. She could cook a fine set of franks and beans on a Saturday night as well. Helen was a hard and fast worker and spent her early years in the Tyre Rubber factory. She later worked at The Gillette Company, on the line, until her retirement. She was a splendid waitress at the Andover Inn for many years to earn a bit of extra cash. She especially loved going to Bingo with Betty and May. Helen cherished her family and particularly her mother, was never far from her or any of us, and honored her throughout her life. She passed on the wisdom and wit she learned to our generations. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, grand, great grand families, and friends whose lives are forever enriched by her unconditional abiding love and her listening ear. While she took no guff from anyone, she was always there for us, through thick and thin. A very special thanks to David for seeing her through her last years, honoring her, being guardian, confidant, and loving son to her. We bless her and may God continue to hold her in the palm of his hand as she is returned home now to so many who long awaited the joyful reunion.

Flo was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Auburn, Maine, the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H., was a nursing instructor at Beverly Hospital from 1964 to 1990, and in 1991 was the discharge planner at J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody, Mass.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a Sea Bee during WWII. He worked in the construction and painting trade for Oxford Paper Mill in Lawrence, Andrew Wilson Co. in Lawrence, and he retired from Zurbach Steel in Salem. Reno was a talented wood worker, building several houses and gazebos. He enjoyed fishing.

Mrs. Gilcreast was a resident of Villa Crest Nursing Home for two years, formerly living in Derry, Sandown, and many years in Londonderry. She was the organist at Londonderry Presbyterian Church for over 47 years. She enjoyed playing cribbage and Yahtzee, as well as reading and quilting. Mrs. Gilcreast loved her family and spending time with them. She was a very kind, compassionate, and loving woman who always put others needs before her own.
