  • Marie A. (Quintal) Laplante, 91

    Lawrence, MA — Mrs. Marie A. (Quintal) Laplante, 91, of Lawrence died on May 21 at the Warde Health Center in Windham, N.H. Born in Lawrence, Mrs. Laplante had been an area resident except for the 30 years when she moved extensively as a United States Air Force spouse. Daughter of the late Nelson and Bertha (Bolduc) Quintal, she worked at Western Electric as an inspector. Mrs. Laplante was a member of the Pioneers of America, the American Sewing Guild, and the Lawrence Immigrant City Archives. She also loved to perform in the Pioneer’s clown troupe under the name “Tiffany the Bag Lady.” Mrs. Laplante was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. The widow of Rene A. “Buster” Laplante, she is survived by one daughter, Denise Hofmann of Salem, Ore.; and four sons, Paul Laplante and his wife, Susan, of College Station, Texas, Peter Laplante of Toronto, Canada, John Laplante and his wife, Barbara, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Marc Laplante and his wife, Susan, of Lawrence, Mass. The eldest of 15 children, she is survived by three sisters, Sr. Rita Quintal, Virginia Sullivan, and Theresa Avard; and three brothers, Rene Quintal, Felix Quintal, and Vincent Quintal. There are 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and over 60 nieces and nephews.

    Andover — Mr. James V. Gerraughty, Jr. of Andover and husband of the late Janet (Gillen) died at his home on Friday, June 7, 2013. Mr. Gerraughty worked as a volunteer at Holy Family Hospital for more than 10 years. He was the father of James V. Gerraughty, III and his wife, Melanie Reagan, of Pelham, N.H., Ann B. and her husband, John A. Johnson, of Andover and Barbara J. Cunningham of Meredith, N.H. Mr. Gerraughty is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William B. Gerraughty.

    Salem, NH — Bill Gage, 83, of Salem, N.H., died Tuesday, June 4, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry, N.H. Bill was a lifelong resident of Salem, born on the family farm. He was a self employed salvage dealer. Bill was known throughout the town and loved visiting and calling his family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen (Ravgilia) and Gilbert Gage, his wife, Beverly (Richardson) Gage, his son, Frank Gage and his brothers, George and Gilbert Gage. Bill is survived by his daughters, Virginia and her husband, Richard Kimball, of Boston, Mass., and Diane Daniels of Plymouth, N.H.; his brother, Edwin Gage of Salem, N.H.; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    Methuen, MA — Carmen F. Miele, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 6, at Methuen Village surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 31, 1922, son of the late Florence (Falice) and Benjamino Miele. Carmen grew up in Lawrence and lived in Methuen his entire life and later went on to proudly serve his country fighting the front lines in Germany and France with the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a purchasing agent for Textron in Lowell for many years until retirement. After retirement Carmen enjoyed being an avid Boston sports fan but most of all spending time with his family, especially at his beach house in Salisbury.

He was the beloved husband of Virginia R. (DeBenedetto) Marotto, with whom he had celebrated a 61st wedding anniversary on April 27.

    Barnstable, MA — Formerly from North Andover, Betty passed away in peace with her son, David Abate and daughter-in-law, Angela, at her side. Betty was lovingly known on Cape Cod as "Betty-B-Bus" as she was employed by CCRTA for many years. She was the daughter of the late Robert V. and Eva (Loeschen) Gillis and sister of the late Robert Gillis. She is survived by daughter, Kim (Abate) Rosen with husband, Mark, of California; son, David Abate with wife, Angela (Geyer), of Cohasset, Mass.; her grandchildren, Adam and Molly Rosen, Brinalyse Abate and her dog, Hercules. Betty was a loving mother. She loved quilting, sewing, and many sunsets at Barnstable Harbor.

    Georgetown — Donald J. McCann, 75, of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. Donald was born in Lawrence, Mass., to the late Joseph and Julia (Grzejka) McCann on July 23, 1937. Donald was employed with the Rowley Highway Department for over 10 years and most recently was a bus driver for the Salter Company in Newbury. He served our country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Donald was a nature enthusiast and loved sailing, hiking the Appalachian Trail, wood carving and the beach. However, his greatest passion was his camp in Maine. Donald at any time could be heard whistling and had a wonderful sense of humor, especially with his "Donaldisms."
