Hard times
Gov. Lynch sees harder economic times ahead for New Hampshire. Salem, N.H. - wake up. Shelve both school renovations and the new police building until economic times improve. The taxes have already increased and these two ventures will cause even higher taxes for people soon to encounter a recession. Wake up Salem. Learn your priorities and some consideration for the citizens of Salem.
Students leaving
It seems that the biggest problem in Salem's High School is the lack of space. Don't worry when all the students from Windham leave to go to their new school, there will be plenty of room.
Teacher's pay
I was a teacher for eight years, and left and entered the business world, where I worked for 26 years. recently I spent some time substituting in several local schools. While a recent caller thought that $60,000 was a lot for 180 days work, I can tell you they're well underpaid. Having to put up with today's "little darlings," let alone try to teach them something is much harder than working in the business world. If you think it's so great, why don't you get off your duff and sub for a few months. You'll change your tune.
Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton keeps referring to her 35 years of experience. What experience? I know she failed miserably at trying to impose a universal health-care plan. She voted for a war before she was against it. She got where she is today only because her husband was president. What are her personal accomplishments? She is where she is today only by association. Shows you the smarts of the American people.
Road details
Only in Haverhill can you retire on $35,000 - wish that was me - and still make another $30,000 off the city. Let's go to civilian road people and spread more jobs around, so everyone can make a living. We have too many $100,000 employees now in Haverhill. Isn't that the democratic way; more jobs, not more money for people?
Long year
In reference to the person who wrote it that the average teacher makes $60,000 for only 180 days a year: The comment that it averages out $120,000 for the working people. That would tell me that the working people would have to work 360 days. I don't know anyone who works that much, do you?
Passed through
Regarding the caller, "Charge renters taxes": If this person thinks for one minute that the owner of the piece of property that had renters on it won't pass on any taxes to the tenants, he is living in a dream world. These people are objecting to the $4 a week charge in taxes so that we can stop being embarrassed living off the fruits of labor of every other city in Massachusetts.
No say
I have to smile when I read the newsletter about the New Hampshire resident objecting to paying taxes to this state because she can't vote on the way the money will be spent. What makes her think the people in Massachusetts have any say on how the money is spent? If she believes they do, I'll sell her the Brooklyn Bridge.
Nightclubs
Police Chief Romero says that Lawrence is a different city on the weekend because of the nightclubs. These nightclubs should have their licenses revoked and be shut down. That would put an end to all the problems on the weekends.
Tuition costs
Isn't the University of Lowell just great? They are going to lower the cost of tuition to people from Southern New Hampshire. You should do the same for people that live in Massachusetts as well. The price to go to college is unbelievable. Don't just help out our neighbors, help out your community as well.
Cost of oil
I noticed that within one week, oil has dropped more than $10. When the cost of oil rises, we see the rise in gas prices within minutes. Why when the price of oil goes down, do we see no changes?
