---- — No enforcement

Today I watched in total disgust as 16 cars passed someone standing in a well-designated crosswalk without stopping to let that person cross. This was done in the presence of a police officer. Why have traffic laws if they are going to be “selectively” enforced? Considering the number of people running stop signs, red lights and speeding, why doesn’t the state just take down all posted signs? Too many people are getting away with too much without fear of getting a ticket. Law enforcement is making a grave mistake not being more visible on our roadways.

No roosters, please

So, as great as the idea is to have a “chicken in every yard,” please urge responsible and caring owners to consider their neighbors. Often when folks get chickens, they also get a rooster. Very, very annoying to those of us who don’t appreciate a rooster crowing all day. It is a fallacy that they crow only when the sun comes up. Be prepared for all day nonstop crowing.

Runaway horse

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the wonderful and caring woman from Haverhill who discovered my horse had escaped his paddock and alerted my friend and barn manager. Her thoughtful and quick action saved my horse from what could have been a tragic situation. I will always be grateful to you; I wish you had given your name so I could thank you in person. May the Great Spirit bless and keep you always.

Casino plans

Approving the casino’s old plan would have been a big mistake. This casino must have a hotel and an entertainment area to be competitive. Gaming alone would not have been attractive enough to draw customers. This casino must do everything it can to compete against Massachusetts and Connecticut in order to bring substantial revenue to New Hampshire. Without a casino the so-called New Hampshire Way of Life will fail without a partial sales or income tax.

Parker’s wrong

I am deeply disappointed at the Eagle-Tribune’s decision to run the Star Parker column (“Planned Parenthood targets black woman,” May 6). She quotes as facts things that have been debunked many times. To equate the freedom of slaves with freedom of embryos is a false equivalency. It is simply not true that there are more Planned Parenthood clinics in African-American neighborhoods. While it’s true that Planned Parenthood performs more abortions for poor people, let’s be clear that only 3 percent of its services are abortions.

Great Depression

I lived through the Depression and I did not see it through rose-colored glasses. In fact, it was so bad, I do not talk about it ever. I had it bad because I did not want to work on the WPA, but that work did help people to get through much better than nothing. Of course, if there were no war, it would have taken longer. The war produced good-paying jobs for skilled workers who could not get these jobs before. Why should I read up on the facts when I lived them? Also why should I read articles by writers who didn’t like FDR in the first place? Would they give him any credit?

Rough ride

Does anyone know if there are any plans to reconstruct Interstate 93 in the Wilmington area? Between all the potholes and the deplorable bridge decks, it has to be one of the worst sections of highway in the state. It’s disgusting that all that money is being spent on the Great Wall of Andover while the rest of us have to continue to endure this hazardous situation.

Bomber burial

The Boston Bomber is costing us thousands of dollars for security details at the funeral home. Therefore, I think we should cremate him and get it over with. I know that is against Muslim beliefs. but did he care about our beliefs when he killed and disfigured the men, women and children?
