Letter: 'Live Free or Die' state should legalize marijuana

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — To the editor:

Decriminalizing marijuana should concern all – if you care about getting medicine to those who need it for treatments and pain relief and helping farmers who could grow hemp, a sustainable material with thousands of uses such as home building materials and alternative fuel, which would create jobs and alternative “green” material. Or if you care about making our law officers’ job a lot easier and safer and not clogging up the court system with victimless crime defendants.

I attended an event called “HempCT”, recently. At this event I heard speakers varying from patients who benefit from medical marijuana to former law enforcers are members of “Law Enforcement Against Prohibition” and want marijuana decriminalized because they don’t feel threatened by a person who has marijuana in their possession and don’t want to create danger by trying to “bust” a person who is harming no one.

It is embarrassing when people from other states say that I live in the “Live Free or Die” state, yet when it comes to cannabis freedom, our state motto doesn’t apply.

I would like to see this change. The states surrounding New Hampshire have legalized marijuana in some form or another and the sky hasn’t fallen. If you agree, please contact your police chief and state representatives
