To the editor:
While I applaud efforts to help those who suffer from drug addiction I feel that the location on busy Route 125 on the Haverhill-Plaistow line is a very poor choice. Surely, one does not have to have a vivid imagination to see the potential for increased crime.
Add to that the possibility that the MBTA layover station and commuter service to Plaistow comes to fruition. This is nothing less than a “perfect storm” for disaster! Many who frequent clinics rely on public transportation.
I implore Haverhill and Plaistow citizens to get involved and stay informed. Why does Spectrum need another Haverhill location? Is there not one on Summer Street? It may be true that Haverhill can do nothing to stop Spectrum Health Systems from opening its doors but the citizens of Plaistow can raise their voices with concern about this. Look for notices about a meeting in January at Town Hall with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
While I spearheaded a campaign and was successful getting voters to come and vote against a layover station in March 2012 this was unsuccessful in stopping the study and search for a proposed site. Please come and be heard by the DOT and Plaistow town officials.
