---- — Perspective needed
To the person who wrote, “Never in all my years have witnessed such fraud, deception and lawlessness coming from a president and his administration.” Either you don’t know a lot of history or choose to ignore it. Think Tea Pot Dome, Watergate, Viet Nam (several examples), Iran-Contra, WMD and more. Even our generally regarded greatest president, Lincoln, suspended habeas corpus during the Civil War. Hate the current president if you must, but at least develop some sense of perspective.
I just returned home from doing an errand, and while driving the back roads of Haverhill, the car in front of me was going 30 mph, which was the posted speed limit. I stayed at least three car lengths behind because that is the law, which we all know is never enforced. I did not tailgate, and two things happened. One, the person in front of me had a safe and enjoyable drive and, two, I got to my destination at the same time I would have if I was ignorant enough to be a tailgater. Please try to give more respect to others while driving; it will not hurt you, I promise.
Squeaky vs. sultry
What happened to the deep, sultry voices of women like those of the golden age of glamour and class like Greta Garbo or Lauren Bacall? Women in the media these days, especially in advertising, have the childish, high-pitched, squeaky voices that sound like fingernails on a blackboard. Are they trying to sound cutesy and childlike? If so, what happened to classy or glamorous?
I received a Christmas greeting from one of the major cable companies — an increase of 6 percent for January — without explanation. So far a 48 percent increase in two years with them. To make things more disgusting, they want $40 for replacement of the their router backup battery. My cable costs exceed my combined heating and electric costs. I thought the DPU was supposed to regulate rates? Is anybody out there capable of going after these price-gougers?
Every town should be thankful for the private schools within their borders. Parents pay the private tuition and still pay their taxes to support the public school. Every child that goes to the private school is alleviating costs to the public schools. You’re welcome.
Stop harping about EBT cards! Estimated erroneous payments: 1.3 percent. Overall, including fraud, it’s 4.7 percent. Lets attack Medicare and Medicaid, 10 percent fraud, and throw in Social Security — 667 indictments recently. Unable to stop it all. Get away from your computers. Go out and help an elderly person. Show us that you have a heart.
Right from wrong
The Supreme Judicial Court stated that research showed that a minor’s brain hasn’t been fully formed so the law should deal with minors differently. Has anyone out there ever had any involvement with today’s teenagers? There isn’t much they don’t know, and they certainly should know right from wrong by the time they are in their teens. As our children are growing through different stages of life it should be impressed upon them that whatever crime they commit they will be punished by law to the fullest, no matter what age they are. Who knows? Maybe then there would be fewer crimes taking place.
