Sound Off

Phelps a Democrat

The Sound Off caller who claimed Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps was a Republican is either deliberately spreading falsehoods or off his meds. Not only was Fred Phelps not a Republican, he ran for public office five times in Kansas as a registered Democrat! Did the caller think we would just take his word for it and not check the facts?

No prayers here

To “Pray for Phelps”: The vast majority of Republicans do not share “common ground” with the late Fred Phelps. Phelps was a vicious, hateful human being. He and his little band of like-minded bigots (mostly his relatives) brought so much pain to our fellow Americans, especially to the families of American soldiers who died in service to our country. I doubt that our Lord met Phelps at the gates of Heaven with open arms, and this Republican will not be remembering Phelps in her prayers.

Alone in hate

I don’t know of a single Republican or have read or seen anywhere in the media where a Republican supported anything Fred Phelps stood for. In fact, it’s been just the opposite. You stand all alone in your hate.

Auto addicts

We need to slowly phase out private automobile transportation and instead put the money toward a strong, efficient public transit system. Europe and Asia have already started this with nothing but positive results. The suburban, automobile-centered lifestyle Americans are accustomed to is not sustainable.

Vroom, vroom

This summer, the police should go after the motorcycles with the loud mufflers. I try to sleep at night with the windows open, but all I can hear is the motorcycles.

Fumble fingers

I have been on Coumadin for over 10 years. I never had a problem opening a Band-Aid. This is because I am careful. You cannot blame a Band-Aid because you’re clumsy.
