Letter: Support Barrett for City Council

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — To the editor:

I have had the privilege of calling Melinda Barrett a friend for over 40 years. As a fellow student on school playgrounds and in classrooms, as a teammate on the softball field and tennis court, and as a near-lifelong friend, I have spent a good deal of time with her over the years and can say without hesitation that I know her very well. She is an intelligent, thoughtful, caring, generous person who always conducts herself with the highest degree of integrity in both business and personal matters.

Melinda has already given countless hours of her time to her community as a treasurer and past president of the Friends of the Haverhill Public Library, a trustee of the Haverhill Historical Society/Buttonwoods Museum, and as a past member of the Board of Directors of the Griffin White Foundation. She is also a third generation business owner in the city who has owned and operated her own small business in downtown Haverhill for 18 years. Her shop affords her the opportunity to speak with residents on a daily basis and maintain a level of awareness of what the local issues are that are impacting all of us. While some of us have left Haverhill for periods of time and returned, or left permanently, Melinda has lived and worked here for her entire life.

I know of no one who has deeper roots in or cares more genuinely about this community. I can also say with certainty and from personal experience that when Melinda commits herself to a task or initiative, she does so fully and for the duration. If elected to represent her fellow citizens on the City Council, she will work very hard and do whatever she can to make Haverhill the best place it can possibly be to live, work, raise a family, and retire.

Melinda Barrett is an excellent choice for Haverhill City Council, and I encourage readers to select No. 5 on the ballot on Nov. 5. She is “the real deal.”
