To the editor:
The Scouts of America will be having their Thanksgiving Food Drive on Saturday, Nov. 10. It is with grateful hearts that we give thanks for all the scouts, their leaders, and parents. They make it all happen!
A lot of work goes into this effort. We all know that this year, this wonderful service, is so necessary. I am sure that all pantries are in dire need. The Food for the Hungry Food Pantry at the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church is no different. We serve some 60 Salem families each week and on Thanksgiving, there will be more.
The Salem Community has always been a giving community. The scouts cannot cover the entire town — not enough bodies or vehicles to do this labor of love. If you are not contacted by the scouts — either with notification on your door or a bag to be filled — by all means, do get your donation to the pantry of your choice. These are our neighbors. If they knocked on your door and said, “I don’t have any food,” we would be there! Our pantries do the job for us. Please, donate whatever you can.
Matthew 25:40 says: “The King will reply ‘Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
