Sound Off

Sloppy work?

Hampton police bear a lot of responsibility for the death of two bicyclists on the Underwood Bridge and injuries to two others. They allowed the alleged operator, Darriean Hess, to allow a friend to come pick her up after a gross speeding violation and driving without a license. She was known to them as having a “history.” Vehicles have been impounded for lesser violations, such as parking tickets. Then she returns in her car eight hours later to the same location, and now there are two dead and others with injuries. Pretty sloppy work by the Hampton PD, which could have prevented her from driving the vehicle again.

Deeper in debt

Just how many “debt exclusions” are hanging over Haverhill taxpayers? They want to “roll over” one for the new Hunking School for another 20 years, and there are a few more still “on the books.” Add to that the regular tax money coming in and add to it -- they want another slice of the money pie with the Prop 2 1/2 override. Can’t they just stop giving salary and pension raises to everyone and live within their means? Normal taxpayers don’t get raises or pension bonuses like they’re doling out.

Reid it and weep

Interesting that Harry Reid thinks the tea Party people are “anarchists.” My take is that he is mouthing words of desperation. He knows what he is doing is wrong, he knows that his actions can result in the U.S. government shutting down, he knows he is not listening to the American people about this mess that is called Obamacare. Yet he just keeps plowing ahead doing what liberals do best: shooting off his mouth and hoping to “wag the dog” and bully the American people! If the government does shut down, it will be on Harry Reid’s head and no one else’s. He will have caused it and he will need to live with the consequences of his stubbornness and manipulations.
