To the editor:
Gail Sullivan’s election to the Haverhill School Committee on Nov. 5 will bring a valuable new voice and perspective to that body. Gail has had a total experience of the educational process. She has been a student with graduate degrees from Fitchburg State and Suffolk University. She has been a high school teacher and a college professor. She has held administrative positions at both school and district levels. As important, she has also been a parent concerned for the quality of her son’s education.
With each of these roles Gail has looked at education from a different perspective and gained hands on experience in each of them. She has written lesson plans, developed and supervised a system-wide curriculum, and run a school district. All part of the invaluable experience she offers to Haverhill voters.
No one committee member can bring about the kinds of improvement needed in our educational system. But a smart, articulate member with experiential knowledge of how a school system should work can do much to make those improvements happen.
I urge Haverhill voters to join me on Nov. 5 to vote for Gail Sullivan. She is not a politician looking for a job. She is a real “school woman” taking another step in a lifelong journey dedicated to bringing quality education to children. The children of Haverhill will be fortunate to have her as an advocate.
