To the editor:
In reading Gennaro A. Ruocco Jr.’s letter to the editor (“How has Obama failed us? Let us count the ways.” Oct. 2), I thought I would try to show a side of only a few things President Barack Obama has accomplished during his time in office:
Shifted the focus of the war from Iraq to Afghanistan, where it should have been all along.
Saved the auto industry.
Made the environment a national priority — and a source for job creation.
Enhanced tax write offs for purchasing hybrid automobiles.
Closed off-shore tax havens.
Ended previous practice of forbidding Medicare from negotiating with drug manufacturers for cheaper drugs — saving millions.
Created the American Recovery and Re-Investment Act, which created millions of jobs nationwide.
Ended previous policy of tax benefits to corporations that outsource American jobs.
Started new consumer protection laws barring credit card companies from predatory practices.
Provided federal support for stem-cell research.
Improved veterans benefits.
Won the Nobel Peace Prize and donated his winnings to nonprofit organizations.
Provided tax credits to first-time home buyers.
Increased student loan funding and refinancing.
Provided funding for school, science and research.
Lowered drug costs for seniors.
Made certain women still have the right to choose.
These are just a few of the things that President Obama has accomplished in his term. There are over 100 things he has done for the people of the United States. Hopefully we will remember he was elected president; he was not elected Jesus.
