---- — Not her house

A political action committee is running an ad claiming New Hampshire gubernatorial candidate Maggie Hassan lives in a half-million dollar house and pays no property taxes. What the ad fails to mention is her family does not own the house. It is owned by Phillips Exeter, which pays the taxes, and is part of her husband’s compensation as principal of the school.

Great gig

When I grow up I want to be a sport personality. I want a “part-time” job that is seasonal for millions of dollars over several years. I want to have job security no matter how poorly I perform. I want an unbelievable amount of sick-leave (DL list) with pay and know that my position will be there when I return. I want preferential treatment, national and international recognition, my name “in lights” along the highways, or on cereal boxes, and even on the backs of T-shirts for all to see. The public will even want my autograph. How wonderful it will be: money, fortune, fame, travel, and many other perks — maybe I’ll even get to date a movie star! It sure beats working for a living!

Brown’s votes

Scott Brown voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Act, which provides equal pay for women doing the same job as a man. Women make 77 cents for every $1 a man makes. He voted against the Affordable Care Act, denying women cancer screening for breast cancer, pap smears and contraceptives, the jobs bill. He is great at attacking Elizabeth Warren though with lies.

Use less

The public has been complaining for years about the price of gas but no one is doing anything about it. Surely people should know that they can change but this seems to be the “gotta-have-it” era so we can’t do without. There are millions of people out there who can cut down or cut out using gas for a few days. Of course firemen, police and doctors have to have it but there are others who go to work alone in a car. They should team up with others that go in the same direction and take three or four in a car for a few days. People can buy a lot of groceries at once then leave the car in the garage for a few days. If millions did this for just a few days think about what a difference it would make.

Fate sealed

I think Mayor Zanni just sealed his fate in the next election — 10-percent raises? Who is getting 10-percent raises these days? They said that Mayor Zanni was going to give the whole city away to the unions — and they were right! Is anyone watching the till in Methuen?

Coming true

A new movie offering is now showing in Methuen called “Atlas Shrugged.” It tells the story of this country as it rapidly heads into complete government control. The author, Ayn Rand, wrote this supposedly fictional novel in 1957, but much of what we see in this movie has started to happen in our country. She shows us a society in which every citizen is literally becoming a slave as all assets, industries, and every part of a person’s way of life is controlled by the centralized government and free will is denied to all. Does any of this sound familiar? We find this fictional story happening in front of our eyes 50 years after it was written.

Christmas push

I am already sick of Christmas being shoved in my face. Commercial greed is eating up this nation. What happened to humanity?
