To the editor:
The Methuen City Council should re-initiate the selection process for city solicitor by calling for another round of applicants for this important post. The current process has been mired in questionable practices that raise doubts regarding the methods of the search committee tasked with finding and approving potential candidates. We also question why the search committee is content to award the position based on such a small sampling of candidates.
Recent accounts indicate that one of the two finalists for the post comes with a considerable amount of baggage. It is our opinion that any person considered for the position should be unencumbered by lingering distractions. Reopening the selection process to a larger field and observing all state requirements for doing so would ensure that the best interests of Methuen are served.
