---- — Guns and drugs
The Obama administration under the “Fast and Furious” program allowed assault weapons to be sold to Mexican drug cartels, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Mexican citizens and at least one U.S. Border Patrol agent, Brian Terry. This also includes 14 Mexican teenagers who were killed at a birthday party by weapons supplied by the Obama administration. The way Obama administration and Democrats see it, it is OK for foreign criminals to have assault weapons, but law-abiding U.S. citizens can’t.
As the deadline for the sequester cuts loomed last week, the stock market took off. I guess Wall Street sees a 2-percent reduction in government spending as a good thing. I wonder how well my 401(k) will do if there’s a 10-percent cut in Obama spending?
Nanny-state Democrats of Massachusetts want to tax soda and candy at the current sales tax rate of 6.25 percent. As a New Hampshire resident I say go for it Deval Patrick! You’re the best governor New Hampshire has ever had.
Let them pay
The Washington Democrats are having a ball trying to frighten us to support the funds they want to cut from all the important programs, including volunteers. Volunteer funding?! Really? I have a better idea for saving funds: How about cutting their pay about 10 percent? They are rich. They can afford it. And maybe they can pay for the use of the gym and perhaps many of the other freebies they get as benefits. Could save a few thousand, I bet.
In Andover, not only are we giving the Youth Foundation $2 million, but with the need for parking, we are also being asked to spend more than $1 million for parking at Doherty School. This is not the end of the project, only the beginning. They will be back for more.
I understand the complaint about the school tours in Salem being during working hours. But don’t you understand that they will be more effective if they are done during the hours that children are in school? How can you see how overcrowded the schools are if there is nobody in the building? If you still would like to see the schools during off hours, call the superintendent’s office. I’ll bet they would accommodate you to try to change your vote.
We all pay
I am still in awe of the public. When workers for city, state, or federal governments get a raise right off the complaining starts because taxes will go up. Well of course, the money has to come from somewhere and with our form of government tax, is what pays for it. What really puts me in awe is the fact that people pay the same in private industry and no one says anything. For example that fellow that left the insurance company with a cool $50 million, the people who bought that insurance will pay big time for that one. We all know we pay for these big-paying jobs. When it is a government person, we taxpayers pay for it. When a high-paid person in business gets a huge raise, we as consumers get to pay for it. It really is one and the same person — us. Never forget you will pay one way or the other.
