I cannot believe how Methuen has conducted the City Solicitor search process. As a life-long resident, if the council does not end the present flawed process, I will be in contact with Attorney General Martha Coakley and Secretary of State William Galvin’s office to review and investigate the entire selection process for any illegal behavior. As a city we need to start holding our elected officials to a higher standard.
Since when have insurance companies become so powerful that they actually dictate the well-being and lives of their customers? Their premiums are so outrageously high and they just want to pocket the money and not have to pay out. So many rules and regulations and the run-around just to get medications or medical attention. It is true that this is turning into an elitist country. Only the rich shall survive.
No matter how one rationalizes it, same-sex marriage will remain an oxymoron.
Thank you Windham schools for banning dodgeball. The third grader inside me who was terrorized and bullied all through gym class and on the playground loves you today and even shed a tear when remembering how bad things were. You have no idea how bad and how demeaning it was. Great job! That is what a school board is for and I am proud of you! I wish my 1960s grade school terror had never happened, but it did. Making the intolerable team picking and taunting of those physically unable to dodge the ball something that cannot happen in your school gives me hope. I have always felt physical fitness is terribly important but finding a way for kids to choose what athletics they would like to participate in has always been something worth considering to build self-esteem. I hope kids can pick what they would enjoy doing instead of being forced onto an intimidating situation.
Leave it to a liberal, Windham Superintendent Henry LaBranche, to say dodgeball is a violent game. When are people going to wake up and realize that liberals think they know what’s best for everyone else. Dodgeball has been around for many years, and I have never associated it with violence or bullying. Maybe LaBranche will decide next that giving out grades is not right because it’s not fair to the students that don’t do well.
Stand your ground
This week, the New Hampshire House voted along party lines to drop the self-defense law enacted a few years ago. Like all Democrats, they continue to favor criminals over law-abiding citizens.
Congressman Stephen Lynch was correct in questioning Congressman Ed Markey’s bragging about breaking up telecommunications monopolies. His retort — “have you looked your cable bill lately?” — was dead-on. Yes, I’m talking about you Comcast. The fact of the matter is that more than 10 years after breaking up AT&T’s dominance in the telecommunications market, the manufacturing part of AT&T is now French-owned Alcatel Lucent) and the plant in North Andover which used to employ thousands of people in the Merrimack Valley consists of a variety of small businesses that barely utilize the space or make up for the job losses.
That’s sad that in the Andover School Committee race, there were more blank votes than votes for Barbara L’Italien. Poor lady is losing power. Maybe she has to recharge her battery in the private arena.
