Jimmy Carter created the Department of Energy in 1977 as a direct result of the Arab oil embargo of 1973. The purpose was to make this country energy independent. Forty years later and after who knows how many trillions of dollars, this country still imports 45 percent of our oil. The DOE has grown into an uncontrollable behemoth. The DOE is directly or indirectly involved in national security and the EPA just to name a few. This was how Obama was able to give stimulus money to all of these green companies that went belly-up. In 2009 and 2010, the Department of Energy’s operating budget was $65 billion. How about it, Obama? Start sequestering there.
Too much music
In the paper recently, some neighbors were complaining about church bells that have been ringing for over 100 years, said it was driving them crazy. How would they like to live in a facility here that plays music 15 hours a day, seven days a week and this is week after week with no end. That will put you on edge every waking hour.
What a shame that our new secretary of state thinks that Americans are “stupid”, and he feels he needs to tell the world about it! We have often seen the disdain both he and the president feel for the people who pay their salaries, and this is right down there with our president bowing to the Arabs. God help the United States. We desperately need that help with these less-than-wise people in charge of our country!
If Sec. Kerry thinks Americans are “stupid”, why in the world does he lower himself to take the money we give him as his salary? He’s sure going to be a sterling secretary of state if he holds us in such low regard.
Looks like Mr. Obama never had any intention of trying to avoid the implementing of the sequester he proposed. If he lets the illegal immigrants out of jail two days before the sequester is even in place, that tells me he will try to blame his hated enemies, the Republicans, for all the woes of the country and he never planned on trying to fix the mess he has created by being a totally inadequate head of this country. We now have a B-team in place in every office in Washington, folks. You think things have gotten bad over the last four years? Wait to see what happens in the next four years.
I congratulate Selectman Stephen Campbell of the Salem Board of Selectmen. He is not afraid to stick up for what he feels is right. There is no “politics as usual”, which is why he is under constant scrutiny and he often creates enemies within the town government. He is constantly looking out for the taxpayer’s pocketbook. Keep up the good work and don’t let “them” get you down. We need more like you.
