Excellent care
My stay at the Merrimack Valley Hospital was excellent. I found wonderful, dedicated nurses, doctors and helpers. The care was so much more than I anticipated and I wish to thank them all very much. The food was also excellent.
Pay for it
In regard to the Sound Off about police pay: How about you do your own homework. You'll see that a lot of us policemen do have our bachelor's and master's degrees. If they want us to get our doctorates, then they can pay for that, too.
Town ruined
What's going on with North Andover? The historical part is completely ruined. There are trees floating in water, telephone poles in the middle of the sidewalk, and police barricades. Where has our town gone to?
Leaves
I would like to thank all of my neighbors for not raking their leaves last fall. Don't worry, I'll do it for you, since they already made their way onto my lawn.
All words
Obama the best? You must be kidding me! He is just a lot of words and no action.
Caustic rhetoric
The Andover School Committee really needs to ratchet down its caustic and divisive budget rhetoric directed toward the selectmen and Finance Committee. Need they be reminded of a few things? A handful of militant parents do not represent the "will of Andover." The other boards have a fiduciary obligation to ask tough questions about the School Department's use of funds. And the School Committee has no legal basis for taking positions on any fiscal matter outside of the school's budget and projects. Their seat at the fiscal planning table is a courtesy granted by the two boards they so readily beat up on. Their childish behavior is simply unacceptable.
Conflict resolution
Regarding the caller who asked why we don't just nuke Iraq: What does a position like this teach our children? I'm no longer astonished at the absence of conflict resolution skills in our youth, if this is what is being passed on to them as a means to resolve problems. In addition, this position doesn't take into consideration the fact that there are millions of innocent people being directly affected by U.S. aggression in Iraq. Unless of course, innocent people are of zero consequence. U.S. foreign policy for the last 100 years is a history of violent interventionism for other than humane purposes.
Trash barrels
Regarding trash barrels in Haverhill streets: It is not all Capital Waste. I am a school bus driver in Haverhill and I have seen trash barrels out for days. Residents do not bring them in. The wind can take them and kids kick them around. So you can't blame it all on Capital Waste!
Childish Yankees
So, the Yankees are talking to the district attorney about prosecuting the construction worker who buried the jersey under the stadium? Someone is being childish here. And I don't mean the construction worker or Red Sox fans.
Coddled children
There is a dress code in Haverhill and all students must adhere to it. The young lady in the paper with the short skirt should have been sent home. Whether or not she had shorts on underneath means nothing. That is one of the problems in this society. The children do as they please and the parents stick up for them. Then we wonder why teachers are exasperated with the way things are. When we went to school, we followed the rules and when we were called to task for not obeying, we got it from the teachers and our parents as well. We are raising a generation of coddled children and heaven help them when they go out in the real world.
