Letter: Casey and McCarthy are the best choices

To the editor:

I am writing this letter to the voters of Newton and East Kingston to express my support for the re-election of Kim Casey and the election of Trisha McCarthy.

I have had several occasions to seek information or aid from various branches of our state government. This has not always been easy to do. Sometimes it has not been clear where to start or who to contact.

Rep. Casey has been extremely helpful and has never fallen back on the traditional response that "Concord won't help you because. ..." In several cases, I have had responses from the appropriate agency representative in as little as 24 hours or less!

Rep. Casey has been a hard worker for the citizens of this district and this is reflected in her voting record. Two key votes recently involved the raising of the minimum wage and the reduction of the interest rate for "payday" and car title loans.

This rate could go over 400 percent! It is still high at 36 percent, but I cannot understand how anyone who is not involved in the "business" could oppose the reduction.

Of course, our other representative did oppose the reduction. Perhaps it is a partisan thing, but that does not make it right.

The minimum wage had not been adjusted in 10 years. The argument that raising the rate would eliminate jobs or make some services more expensive has been used every time the rate has been raised, and yet we still have the jobs and the services are still there.

Naturally, this was also opposed by the other representative who voted to kill the bill.

This is the type of representation we, as citizens of this district, need and deserve. I urge you to support Kim and Trisha on Election Day.
