Letter: Homeland Security is in arms race with citizens

(Continued)

In exposing this exorbitant federal munitions order, the Associated Press quoted Peggy Dixon, spokeswoman for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as saying that the huge order was essentially done to secure a volume discount. Really? That must be the mother of all price breaks.

So how much ammo does the DHS actually consume on a regular basis? Dixon responded by saying the training center and others like it use as many as 15 million rounds every year.

So in this period of fiscal cliffs and sequesters, DHS is buying a 100-year supply of bullets? And they are requisitioning frontline combat vehicles to deploy here at home? Not to mention spending $50 million on brand new uniforms? (I wonder if the new uniform shirts are brown.)

This has every appearance of the government engaging in an arms race — with its own citizens. The very thought of that is chilling in the land of the free and home of the brave. Congress needs to pull Napolitano out of her bunker and start asking her whose standing army she is fitting out with our money.

I have 1.6 billion questions I’d like answered.
