Sound Off

Sick of government

I find it comical that Bill Clinton is out there campaigning for the Obama administration and telling the voters not to vote for Republicans this coming November and give the Democrats more time. Are you kidding they've been controlling the government since 2006 and look at the mess they've gotten us into. Back in 1994 when Clinton was in office two years we voted the Dems out and the Republicans in and the markets surged shortly thereafter. I would just like to say that I am sick of government altogether and if there is a candidate that is pro-citizen and for less government they have my vote!

Hurricane

I was extremely relieved to hear Gov. Patrick lift the state of emergency on Saturday, and to know that it was now safe to go outside. Let's be honest, by the time he declared the emergency, the storm had already dropped to a category 1 and was weakening, and was also tracking further eastward. This was clearly a way for him to get some free TV time in an election year. Either that or he didn't have much experience with hurricanes when he was a kid growing up in Chicago and he didn't know any better.

Not all fun

As usual Barney wrote a fine article about the shoe workers of Haverhill but he was a little too kind. I have an idea that around the turn of the century Haverhill had its own Bread and Roses, it was not all fun and work in those days.

Peace disturbed

To the "Bradford 5K" people who put out a sign in front of my house at 1 a.m., setting my dog on an all-out defensive bark and startling the house awake because you parked on my lawn and were getting things out of the trunk of your car: For shame. I nearly had a heart attack from being startled awake. Aren't there rules about disturbing the peace at such hours?

Keep in mind

When casting your vote this November, keep foremost in your mind what liberals, on both sides, have done to our country. They have been on board with a radical assault against the people who pay them and trust them to act in the best interest of the country. As you are casting your vote keep in mind the government takeovers, payoffs for votes, bonuses for the most unworthy, tax cheats writing tax laws for working people, unimaginable expansion of government, encouragement of welfare, job loss, loss of homes, inept handling of the oil disaster, etc.

Yard work

I just want to thank my neighbor for another great holiday. Just because you are awake at the crack of dawn doesn't mean the rest of your neighbors are. I was planning on sleeping in but was awakened at 7 because you decided it was a great time to do yard work. Have a little consideration, please!

Out of work

Dave Granlund's cartoon was right on. Anyone over 50 who has lost their job is between a rock and a hard place. Almost any decent paying employment now requires some sort of degree. How about a stimulus bill to re-educate those who can't find jobs in the areas that they previously worked? And, this being the United States of America, why should we have to be bilingual to find work?

Road repair

I don't understand why Obama's only answer to our struggling economy is to keep funding "roads and bridges" repair. I'm sure that helps a small percentage of people. I, personally don't know anybody who knows how to repair a road or a bridge.
