Sound Off

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — Punish the fool

Now that they have caught the kid that sprayed the buildings they ought to make an example of him and give him enough juvenile time to discourage other fools from doing it. This is a serious problem in this country that costs over a billion dollars a year.

What Supremes don’t

To the Sound Off commenter “What Supremes do,” you were right that the Supreme Court is supposed to render an opinion on constitutionality, but that has not been the case since the 1970s. Look at how the opinions have been split along political lines. For instance, nowhere in the Constitution does the phrase “separation of church and state” appear. This came from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson 10 years after the Constitution was ratified to a group of Baptist ministers who wanted to be assured that the government wouldn’t interfere with any public display of their faith. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that a woman has the right to murder her unborn child, but the liberals of the Supreme Court would have you believe it does.

Hacks ‘heart’ unions

To “Speechless”: The answer to your question is simple. The citizens of Methuen don’t elect the City Council or the mayor. The unions do. This is why Methuen has the same old hacks running for office. The hacks know this and in return take care of the unions.

Thanks, teachers

I just want to say thank you to the sisters and teachers at the Presentation of Mary Preschool. My children have been so well prepared to enter kindergarten thanks to their educational program and the dedicated efforts of the teachers. I hope many others can take advantage of the kindness and guidance they show the children. You are truly a blessing to the future generations that will some day lead us.

Wrong turn?

Lots of great points in the editorial about the differences between New Hampshire and Vermont. But ending by saying Vermonters take Route 93 to go home? Maybe you meant Route 89. Route 93 does not go from New Hampshire to Vermont.

Good job, all

Many thanks to the mayor and the director of public works for the repair to the benches at Methuen’s Riverside Park. The repair was long overdue, but now this beautiful setting has been restored. Realizing that funds and manpower are tight within the city’s budget, this is one grateful park walker who truly appreciates this delightful “gem of the neighborhood.”

Medicare scam

Another reason we need to deport illegal immigrants, not reward them: A woman in New York and her husband for four years stole Medicare blind. She had a fake identity for a doctor, wrote prescriptions and stole elderly patients’ records. They stole $10 million. And our dear leader wants amnesty for illegals. The government needs to do a clean sweep and give illegals a one-way ticket back to the country they came from.
