---- — Thanks a lot
Love the headline: Gas prices up 7 cents this week and another 10 cents soon. Not even mentioning the upcoming gas tax hike the Legislature saw fit to give us! Thank you to state Rep Linda Dean and her colleagues.
Ex-Methuen manager Mike McLaughlin sentenced to three years in prison! Where are all those Sound Off writers who praised his character? Don’t you feel silly in hindsight?
Shame on Methuen Mayor Zanni and his cronies. He had the audacity to call us second-class citizens trying to bully his way to getting artificial turf for the high school football field. How about appropriating funds to the proper care of the senior housing community on Mystic Street? The place is in deplorable conditions! And this is how Methuen’s seniors end up spending their final days.
Where I live in Haverhill, off Route 125, various gas stations have gone up 30 cents a gallon in one week. They say it’s summer and the demand is high for travelers, and the unrest in Egypt is not helping. Well I’m sure it’s OK for those in big business to enjoy their vacations, while the rest of us stay home and fund their trips.
“Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by a difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought to be deprecated. I was in hopes that the enlightened and liberal policy, which has marked the present age, would at least have reconciled Christians of every denomination so far that we should never again see the religious disputes carried to such a pitch as to endanger the peace of society.”
— George Washington, letter to Edward Newenham, October 20, 1792. George Washington was a Founding Father, no?
So last year they tore up Main Street in the Bradford section, put in new pipes and sidewalks and repaved it. Then they go back and tear up the street at different locations. Then all the manhole covers and drains are raised. Then they are tarred around said covers. What next? The good news? I am staying sharp maneuvering around these obstacles!
Shirtless in Haverhill
Haverhill Housing Authority, we had a good thing going in our little complex off Lincoln Avenue until this new person just moved in. Shirtless company over all hours sitting on the front porch smoking and Lord only knows what else. We seniors need someone to watch out for us!
Good job, mayor
I’m glad to see Mayor Zanni is putting some safeguards into the agreement with the newly hired law firm representing the city. I wouldn’t call it micromanaging the City Council, as one councilor would like people to think. For years, the council complained about the high cost of outside legal costs. Now the mayor is putting in safeguards to prevent this, and one councilor (running for mayor no less) is on her high horse. Shame on her!
Be like Andovers
To the city councilors who spoke so vigorously against having a health director in Methuen: Shouldn’t we strive to be better than the cities of Lawrence and Haverhill? Andover and both Andover are both very much thriving surrounding communities.
