To the editor:
I would like to thank New Hampshire’s Sen. Kelly Ayotte for two things: one, for not being afraid to debate the issue of gun control, even when pressured by her Republican colleagues to filibuster the issue; then, for supporting a real solution to improve background checks, prosecute violent criminals, and strengthen school security.
It is refreshing to see someone in New Hampshire’s congressional delegation not only standing up for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans, but also creating sensible gun legislation. Most importantly, Sen. Ayotte understands the central importance of mental health in this debate and has led the way on essential, bipartisan legislation to enhance preventative and early intervention mental health first aid. So thank you again, Sen. Ayotte, for being a reasonable voice in this debate.
