Good man with gun
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read a Sound Off item on knives vs. guns. The key phrase here is “deranged person.” Guns, knives, baseball bats and more can all be use to kill or harm a person. In my nearly 30 years of police work it was always the weapon in the wrong hands. I guess the writer does not think very highly of the NRA. I’ll close by telling him another “mantra” the NRA has: “The only thing that will stop a bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun.” And, sir, I have been in that position, and I am here to tell you the good guy won.
Stick to books
When I went to school, we attended classes to learn. Today there are all these activities and social skill-building sessions, some of which require parental participation during weekdays. Parents need to work, and not all kids have grandparents available to fill the gap. I’ve noticed so many grandparents at my granddaughter’s school, not many parents. I always thought school was for scholastics and education, not socializing. Stick your nose and mind in a book!
Hungry in Plaistow
The paper said Plaistow leaders hope to bring more businesses to Route 125. What about when Walmart wanted to build a Supercenter? Why did they turn them down? Because it would bring too much traffic. So now they are going to widen 125. Will Walmart try again? Plaistow, bring in more restaurants. Try to get Golden Corral or Sonic. How about Chuck E. Cheese?
No cheap fuel
One Sound Off commenter said if we produced more of our own energy it would be cheaper. This one must be young or living on another planet. Oil, gas and coal are owned by corporations and therefore will never, ever be cheap. If the car makers get off their duffs so all cars do 40 or 50 miles to the gallon, you will see gas go to $7 or $8 a gallon. This is why gas is so expensive in foreign countries: They all have cars that are fuel-efficient.
