To the editor:
I just read the letter about Fisichelli’s closing in Andover. My fear was that she was closing entirely and it took my breath away! Fisichelli’s was a part of every holiday in my house growing up and always a special treat!
I had the pleasure of knowing Nina’s grandparents and her parents and they were all wonderful hard-working people. I remember them sitting in front of the bakery on the nights of the Italian feast eating roasted chestnuts out of little brown paper bags.
The quality of Fisichelli’s product has never wavered and knowing Nina personally it never will. I am so grateful that they ship product as I now live in Texas and not only do I place orders for my own family, I often send gifts of her cookies all over the country. Nina’s dedication to her product and her customers is second to none and is more than worth the trip to Lawrence!
Lawrence is nostalgic to me -- one of my fondest memories is getting up early braving the cold with a hot coffee warming my hands as I chatted with her patrons lining the sidewalk who were also awaiting to purchase their holiday pastries! More business owners should follow the lead of the Fisichelli family and contribute to the comeback of Lawrence.
I can no longer jump in my car and go get a cannoli on a Saturday afternoon -- so I remain jealous of a simple commute to Lawrence . Fisichelli’s is always worth the trip!
Thank you Fisichelli’s. I miss you, please never close!
