Letter: Pelletier family is closer to being reunited

To the editor:

The Pelletier case appears to be moving in a new direction. On Thursday, Gov. Deval Patrick told Rev. Patrick Mahoney that he wanted to see the family reunited in Connecticut.

On Friday, Secretary John Polanowicz wrote in a letter to the editor, “Justina Pelletier should return to her home state of Connecticut to receive the services and support she needs close to her friends, family, school and community. We strongly believe that this outcome is in Justina’s best interests, and have laid the groundwork to make it happen.”

Nancy Hathaway, Justina Pelletier’s attorney, and parents Lou and Linda Pelletier, have agreed on a plan to bring Justina home. These are all hopeful developments. State Rep. Marc Lombardo and I urge Secretary Polanowicz to continue to take a leadership role in this case and bring Justina home. After 14 months it is encouraging to see that someone in the Patrick administration understands that reuniting the Pelletier family is in the best interest of Justina.
