To the editor:
This is in response to the letter “Predictions of Obamacare doom fall flat”, May 1:
First I would like to address the issue that “Republicans lie.” Why is it that when people write letters about Republicans lying they can’t back it up with specifics and only generalize. I have a couple of specific lies our Democratic Party members have said about Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act): If you like your doctor and plan you can keep it. And the price of insurance will go down. For millions of Americans not only were their plans cancelled but the cost of their premiums went way up. How does this make if affordable?
Second, I would like to address the claim that millions of people are covered. Although it is true that an estimated 8 million have enrolled in the ACA, you are not “covered” until you start making payments.
Finally, I would like to address the issue that for the ACA to work, a certain percentage of the so-called young and healthy have to be enrolled and covered to support the people who are unhealthy. This has not happened, so in effect the ACA is not working.
In my opinion, if the ACA is not repealed or revised it will be a train wreck. When the ACA waivers run out for companies and businesses, this will be a job killer. Also some employees will lose their insurance through their employers forcing them to pay a lot more for coverage. Only when the ACA is fully implemented we will know the true impact of this law.
